    How to Calculate Fence Materials

Divide fence length by post spacing and add 1 for total posts. Multiply sections by 2 (or 3 for tall fences) for rails. Divide total length in inches by picket width + gap for number of pickets.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How far apart should fence posts be?

Standard spacing is 2.4 m (8 ft) centre-to-centre for most residential fences. In wind-prone or exposed areas, reduce to 1.8 m (6 ft).

How deep should fence posts be?

Bury one-third of total post length. For a 1.8 m (6 ft) fence, use 2.4 m (8 ft) posts buried 600 mm (2 ft). In cold climates, go below the frost line.
