How to Calculate Gravel
Measure length and width in feet and depth in inches. Convert depth to feet, multiply all three for cubic feet, divide by 27 for cubic yards. Multiply cubic yards by density factor for tons.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much gravel do I need for a driveway?
A typical single-car driveway (3.5 x 15 m / 12 x 50 ft) at 100 mm deep needs about 5.7 m³ (7.4 cubic yards) or roughly 10 tonnes of crushed stone. Base layers should be 100-150 mm.
How do I convert volume of gravel to weight?
Multiply cubic metres by 1.8-2.0 for tonnes (or cubic yards by 1.4-1.5 for US tons). Pea gravel: ~1.85 t/m³. Crushed stone: ~2.0 t/m³. River rock: ~1.8 t/m³.
